Overview
Selous (Nyerere) National Park (NP) * Ruaha NP * Katavi NP * Tanzania Coast
This Southern Tanzania Adventure & Coast safari is a great combination of small lodges and personal hospitality and attention to things that really matter. And a three night stay at each allows for a relaxed stay (and you can stay even longer if you wish). It's perfect for a safari honeymoon, or bush and beach getaway. Plus it represents great value, consider the remoteness of the destination, with intimate camps offering an authentic atmosphere. All are in gorgeous and carefully chosen locations.

The safari starts and ends in Dar es Salaam. You first fly - with a small scheduled light aircraft to the Selous Game Reserve (now renamed as Nyerere National Park) in Southern Tanzania. Your safari camp in Nyerere is consciously "old school" with none of the frills and ostentation of some of the more recent and more luxurious new lodges. It still has all the excitement of being in an amazing game viewing area where animals are happy to roam through the camp.
Next you fly westwards to Ruaha National Park. Ruaha is known for both its elephants as well as its population of wild dog. Not unsurprisingly Ruaha River Lodge is beautifully located on the Ruaha River. Where it has 24 en-suite stone chalets with private decks overlooking the river.
Then you fly yet further inland to the remote Western sector to Katavi National Park. It provides the few intrepid travellers who make it there with a thrilling taste of the ‘old’ Africa. Indeed this is a park for the African connoisseur! Katavi is a true wilderness, and offers excellent game-viewing, especially in the dry months from June to November. Then it’s not unusual for huge pods of hippo and thousand-strong herds of elephant or buffalo to converge on the area. Katavi Wildlife Camp is set amongst the trees fringing the Katisunga plains, and has 6 large Meru-style tents overlooking the plains.
Finally you return to Dar. Then you head north by vehicle and then boat to stay 3 nights at Lazy Lagoon Lodge on its own private island in the Indian Ocean.
Note: We have presented this safari is suitable for solo travellers for two reasons. Firstly the nature of these small intimate camps makes it easy for single visitors to mix with other guests. Secondly the single price is less than 25% more than the per person price. Contact us for a quote.
