Overview

The remote, wilderness areas of Africa have a devoted, but by no means universal, following. You may need to conduct a little personal self-analysis to discover if a spell away from the trappings of civilization is really for you.

If the confines of a commuter train journey make your heart sing, then read no further! If your idea of heaven is the familiar press of humanity as you hurriedly weave through the shopping centre to the car park. Then save those frequent-flier miles for a New York shopping break. It isn't a question of comfort. You can sleep and eat in luxury and considerable style in some of these remote off-the-beaten-track safaris in Africa. Itโ€™s more about whether youโ€™ll be relaxed and spiritually reinvigorated by a spell in a place untrammeled by man. Or left feeling restless?

Many off-the-beaten-track safari destinations are technically deserts, which is not what we might imagine. However they support plenty of vegetation and a diversity of wildlife. But donโ€™t expect this to be a thrill-a-minute experience. These wilderness areas have a much more subtle, and lasting, charm.

So don't rush the experience. Allow at least 3 nights, preferably longer, so that you can soak up its unique atmosphere of these off-the-beaten-track safaris.

Note

Though we pride ourselves on having several sample safaris which head to remote areas of Africa, there is naturally less of a demand. So most of our off the beaten track safaris are tailor-made to suit you, and not necessarily always on this website.

Want to head to the far corner of the Skeleton Coast of Namibia? No problem. Want to explore some of fascinating community-orientated lodges in Limpopo and the northern Kruger? Talk to us!

Winning itinerary!!
"Without ever meeting us, Kate and Tash from Cedarberg Travel & African Safaris created a winning itinerary for my friend and I! The itinerary was well-balanced in its schedule, activity levels and locations. We started in Cape Town with several tours and an excellent tour guide named Tobi. Tobi quickly clicked with us, laughed with us, and answered all of our questions about aspects ..." - Mrs Myers
Cedarberg & company have been amazing!
"Cedarberg & Co have been amazing! Professional, knowledgeable and very helpful. We had put everything together in about a week. Communications are of high standards. All plans worked. " - Mr Roland, UK
We will certainly use Cedarberg again
"All the arrangements worked perfectly โ€“ no hiccups at all. We will certainly use Cedarberg again and will recommend the company to others. We were particularly impressed by the fact that the ground agents met us from every flight and saw us on to the next flight so if anything had gone awry there was someone on hand to help us sort it out. As one gets older that is enormously comforting. " - Ms Sandra Clark, UK
The trip was amazing
"I will write in detail about all the places. In the meantime, I just wanted to write you a quick note to say THANK YOU so much for putting a wonderful trip together for our family. From the beginning to the end the trip was amazing. I will highly recommend you to anyone in the future for South Africa. " - Mr Gord Dubey, USA
Great to deal with
"Cedarberg were really great to deal with. The Drakensberg mountains were spectacular. We most enjoyed Victoria Falls that literally took your breath away.ย  The river boat cruises at Livingstone were well worth it.ย  Also getting so close to the animals at Umlani in the Timbavati, even the lions and leopards. " - Mr Martin Butler, UK
