Romantic Beach Retreats

Some of our honeymoon destinations may be quite remote and a little tricky to get to... but what's an hour or two of extra travelling versus five days of utter bliss afterwards?

Honeymoon Destinations in Africa by season

Romance takes many forms. What rocks the boat for one couple may feel way too orchestrated for another. So perhaps it's best if we describe our criteria for selecting these 'romantic beach retreats'. . And let you decide whether these places echo your idea of bliss.

We look for character and charm above ceremony. Typically, these are smaller resorts or boutique hotels where personal details matter, service feels genuinely warm, and you never sense you’re one of fifty honeymooners lined up for the same sunset cocktail. They may not shout the loudest about special honeymoon rates, though some offer them quietly; the charm is in the understatement.

Why we love it

  • Intimate scale: Boutique lodges and small hotels where thoughtful detail replaces mass-market romance.
  • Authentic settings: From remote islands to hidden coastal gems, each offers a genuine sense of place.
  • Freedom to choose your mood: Stay tucked away in seclusion or dip into local culture and lively coastal scenes.
  • Perfect pairing options: Combine beach tranquillity with a safari for a beautifully balanced honeymoon or anniversary escape.

Some of our romantic retreats sit on far-flung shores, requiring an extra flight or a longer road transfer. But what's an hour or two of extra travelling versus five days of utter bliss afterwards?

Others lie within little coastal towns:  gentle, unhurried places where ocean views mingle with local life. Here, romance is not just the expanse of beach but the tranquillity and authenticity of the experience. With morning walks on near-empty beaches, seafood lunches that linger, and nights punctuated only by the sound of the surf.

Cape Town Romance Finds Its Rhythm

Kasteelpoort hike behind Camps Bay, Atlantic Ocean

And then there are our Cape Town beach hideaways. They pair a romantic ambience - dramatic coastline, golden light, views that stop conversation - with the freedom of a vibrant city only minutes away. Cape Town offers acclaimed restaurants, art galleries, helicopter flips and hiking in nature.

Plus the quiet thrill of knowing you can dip into the buzz whenever you wish, then retreat again to your private getaway above the ocean.

Share your wish-list and we’ll shape a coastal escape where every detail just feels right.

Glad we booked with Cedarberg
"They were very informative and helpful. Milandi in particular helped us with car hire and when I lost my wallet on arrival in Cape Town. Milandi was always available to discuss and change anything required. Emails were replied to promptly. " - Mr Chris Jones, UK
10 out of 10 for everything
"The holiday was exceptionally good and we all enjoyed every moment, especially my son Stephen (10 years old). The fact that Stephen enjoyed it says a lot since he is a seasoned traveller (as are most expat kids) having been to almost 20 countries already in his lifetime. We returned with more than a thousand photos and wonderful memories of what Africa can offer at its best " - Family De Waal,
Couldn’t have been happier…
"Cedarberg and specifically our specialist Peter, have been excellent. Really communicative and just very on the ball. From the planning and payment, all the way through to arriving back home. The transfers, hotels, everything was spot on. Couldn’t have been happier with how our honeymoon went. " - Mr Clark Hoy, UK
As always an excellent itinerary
"Choices of lodges was perfect. Everything went extraordinarily smoothly. As always an excellent itinerary, great local agent/guide/driver and good trip notes. Good to hear from Milandi personally when a local problem caused a change in the itinerary during the trip. " - Mr Tim Flesher, UK
I loved the trip!
"I loved the trip. The accommodation was all lovely, i.e. comfortable, nicely located, some nice touches (e.g. treats at bed turn down), the managers were all helpful. The locations of each were also beautiful and convenient for what we wanted to do " - Mrs Deb, USA
