Safari and Beach Honeymoons in Africa

For many couples, a honeymoon isn’t a proper honeymoon unless we have bleached our hair with salt and sun and covered at least one paperback with sand. Combine enticing tropical islands and golden beaches with Africa’s pristine wilderness for the ultimate Africa beach and safari honeymoon. Many safari lodges also tend to offer honeymoon specials or add-ons such as a private dinner, turndown or complimentary service.

Ideal combinations are South Africa with Mozambique or Mauritius, Zanzibar or the Seychelles with the game reserves of Tanzania or Kenya. However, there are some less known combinations such as Zambia with Malawi or Madagascar.

Island Honeymoons

All of the islands we feature have a few exceptional resorts which speak ‘romance’ to even the most world-weary. Your temporary home might be on stilts over the limpid waters of a lagoon or built up in the trees. Such places are rarely inexpensive. But if you want to cash in your bonus cheque, these are the ones to look for.

What we need YOU to do!

But we need your thoughtful input to plan the perfect honeymoon in Africa. Carefully weigh the options of various honeymoon locations.

Consider:

  • What matters most? Wildlife, food and wine, beach time, or is it a general mix of all of them?
  • How far do you want to travel? Would you rather spend less on flights and transfers, so you can spend more on a fancier hotel?
  • Budget priorities? Balance what is important to you, with what you have to spend.
  • Style of travel? Would self-drive work for you (South Africa only), or ruin the mood?

Frequently asked questions

Most couples choose to spend around 7 – 14 days on honeymoon. This all depends on whether you want to split time between doing a safari and a beach or just focus on one. We recommend at least 8 days if you are wanting to indulge in both experiences. At Cedarberg Africa we work on your timeline, there are no fixed departure times or strict schedules to meet; just your own personalised retreat at your own pace.

As we specialise in curating tailormade packages, we can create a honeymoon specifically to your desires. We promise, we have seen it all!

It all depends on the season and what type of honeymoon you are wanting. If you are wanting to travel during peak periods (such as July to October for safari season and December/January for the beach in South Africa), an ideal timeline would be between 9 – 12 months in advance.
