Where to go if don’t have much time because you are constrained by the school term calendar? What are some ideas for a Easter family safari with the kids?

Some African destinations simply don’t lend themselves to shorter breaks, just because their varied attractions are too far apart to make a quicker trip enjoyable. The trick is to not be too ambitious. it's better to enjoy one or two, (maximum three), contrasting areas which can be easily combined. Charging around chasing your tail and spending way too much time in the car or at airports is no fun.

The good news is that the Southern Hemisphere school breaks (with the exception of Easter and Christmas) are at a completely different time to those in the Northern hemisphere. This means no artificial hiking up of prices to skewer the poor unfortunate parents forced to travel at these times. A few beach resorts may have a small Easter supplement but this is rarely the case with safari lodges.

Yes, international flight prices can be higher. But the early bird will get the best rate. Aim to book flights a year ahead.

Family holidays in Africa at Easter, Easter family safari ideas

Below are our recommendations for shorter Easter family safari holidays or for half-term breaks. These pack a strong punch despite their paucity of days.

We’ve also recommended some family-friendly safari lodges and hotels. It's tricky to pick favourites from our wide choice of family-friendly hotels. So our decision rationale was to focus on lodges which offered a variety of activities. Our featured hotels easily justify a 3-5 nights stay. So as to reduce the need for in-trip travelling.

You delivered us a near perfect experience
"We had a wonderful trip largely thanks Cedarberg Travel. THANK YOU!! Thank you again Mari. We had a trip packed with fun, laughter, wildlife and bucket showers, all at a relaxed pace which made us all believe we had a real holiday, even if it started at 5.am every morning! I believe that you gave us 3 wonderful lodges ( arguably best we have visited in the African continent all with their speci ..." - Mr Dennis Lee
Cannot recommend enough
"I cannot recommend Cedarberg Africa enough, and more specifically, Mari Jacobs. I knew nothing about Africa and I thought it would be a wonderful place to go for our 2-week honeymoon. A co-worker had done a similar trip and passed along Mari’s name to me. She really is excellent at what she does and, most importantly at the time, she makes everything as stress-free as possible. The whole travel experience was excellent!
"We were very happy with the kind and professional way our travel request was dealt with. We received an outlined itinerary swiftly with an elaborate description that sounded very attractive. A couple of changes were made to adapt it somehow a little more to our wishes. The whole procedure was easy going and agreeable. A last minute change concerning our rental car was dealt with swiftly and smo ..." - Mrs Fenagun, UK
Amazing holiday in SA
"Thank you for the most amazing holiday in South Africa. The three lodges were all selected with great care and each had a different atmosphere. All transfers worked entirely smoothly and we were even met on arrival at Johannesburg airport to be escorted the few yards to the airport hotel! Cedarberg really came into their own when BA messed up the outgoing flight (twice) and Ginny spent her enti ..." - Mr Mike Ricks, UK
Incredibly well organised
"Everything was incredibly well organised and left nothing wanting. We did not see all of the animals that we had hoped for but the experience we had was so much more than that. Hopefully we will return to Africa one day – maybe Namibia / Botswana next time. Thank you so much for organising everything for us it is very much appreciated. " - Mr James Coleman
