To the east of Plettenberg Bay lies the Tsitsikamma National Park. A dense luxuriant indigenous forest, with rugged ravines,Ā streamsĀ and waterfalls, as well as delightful sandy coves. Tsitsikamma is a Khoi word meaning āplace of abundant or sparkling waterā.Ā The region, which sits on a 200m high plateau stretches from the Bloukrans River in the west to the Tsitsikamma River in the east. It is bordered by the imposing Tsitsikamma Mountains and by the Indian Ocean. This undoubtedly superb area of primevalĀ rain-forestĀ and wild coastline is incredibly beautiful,Ā making it a definite stop on your Garden Route trip.Ā Ā
Ā For ease of travel, we have divided the area into two:Ā
Ā Each area offers something unique. The Crags boasts amazing wine farms and luxurious estates, whereas Tstisikammaās rugged landscape carves out stunning wild trails and viewpoints.Ā

The Tsitsikamma coastal parkĀ stretchesĀ for 75km along the southern Cape coast. ItĀ comprisesĀ a wild,Ā unspoiltĀ and rugged stretch of dense indigenous forest.Ā Numerous trails and walks weave through the dense forest.Ā One of the most beloved walksĀ is the pretty boardwalk to the suspension bridge over the Storms River.Ā TheĀ iconic bridge overlooks the gorgeĀ and isĀ a mustĀ for those who love nature and some adventure.Ā This is a perfect introduction to the parkĀ Nearby is Storms River village, the centre for a variety of adventure activities.Ā
We could have included this area withĀ Plettenberg, becauseĀ it is only 20km away. But it is a great area to base yourselves, as you can easily reach Knysna, Plettenberg Bay and the Tsitsikamma from hereĀ (without the hustle and bustle).Ā The small region has becomeĀ knownĀ for its various wildlife sanctuaries and outdoor experiences.Ā This is home to Monkeyland, the Birds of Eden, Tenikwa Wildlife Centre and Bramon Wine Estate amongst others.Ā
