To the east of Plettenberg Bay lies the Tsitsikamma National Park. A dense luxuriant indigenous forest, with rugged ravines, streams and waterfalls, as well as delightful sandy coves. Tsitsikamma is a Khoi word meaning “place of abundant or sparkling water”. The region, which sits on a 200m high plateau stretches from the Bloukrans River in the west to the Tsitsikamma River in the east. It is bordered by the imposing Tsitsikamma Mountains and by the Indian Ocean. This undoubtedly superb area of primeval rain-forest and wild coastline is incredibly beautiful, making it a definite stop on your Garden Route trip.
For ease of travel, we have divided the area into two:
Each area offers something unique. The Crags boasts amazing wine farms and luxurious estates, whereas Tstisikamma’s rugged landscape carves out stunning wild trails and viewpoints.

The Tsitsikamma coastal park stretches for 75km along the southern Cape coast. It comprises a wild, unspoilt and rugged stretch of dense indigenous forest. Numerous trails and walks weave through the dense forest. One of the most beloved walks is the pretty boardwalk to the suspension bridge over the Storms River. The iconic bridge overlooks the gorge and is a must for those who love nature and some adventure. This is a perfect introduction to the park Nearby is Storms River village, the centre for a variety of adventure activities.
We could have included this area with Plettenberg, because it is only 20km away. But it is a great area to base yourselves, as you can easily reach Knysna, Plettenberg Bay and the Tsitsikamma from here (without the hustle and bustle). The small region has become known for its various wildlife sanctuaries and outdoor experiences. This is home to Monkeyland, the Birds of Eden, Tenikwa Wildlife Centre and Bramon Wine Estate amongst others.
