Northern Mozambique, north of Vilanculos, offers unspoilt coastal lodges both south of Pemba. We particularly recommend Coral Lodge near the historic Ilha de Mozambique which is in a quiet part of the coast.
Gorongosa, in northern Mozambique, has undergone quite a metamorphasis with a major rewilding project aiming to restore its former wildlife heyday. There are now two new options to stay. The upmarket Mizumu Lodge on the banks of the Mussicadzi River. And a low footprint eco lodge, Wild Gorongosa.
The lively town of Pemba is a complete contrast to the tranquility of the Quirimbas but has its own unique appeal with its huge natural harbour, Wimbe beach and atmospheric souk market.
On the Eastern side of northern Mozambique lies Manda Wilderness Community Trust. This private concession is the base for the charming Nkwichi Lodge. Northern Mozambique, particularly the Niassa Reserve, has become less accessible in recent years. There is virtually no tourism infrastructure and so we cannot arrange road transfers.
This lodge is currently only accepting self-catering guests
