Overview

Seasonal water camps lie in the part of the Okavango Delta which floods seasonally from June to October, depending on the rains. During this time, they offer the full range of water-based safari activities. And yet. all year round they offer 4Ɨ4 game drives in open vehicles as well as game walks.

The waters of the Okavango Delta offers a unique boat-based safari experience. Choose between the silence and gentle pace of a poled mokoro, or the faster pace of a comfortable shaded motorboat. A network of waterways, feathery papyrus reeds, and diverse animals, large and small, are waiting to be discovered.

Some seasonal water camps are more water-orientated (such as Kanana Camp) and some are more land-orientated such as Shinde Camp. Some are even on private concessions within the Moremi Game Reserve, such as Chiefs Camp, which as accesses to seasonal flood waters on the edge of the Island.

Exactly when each seasonal water camp can offer mokoro trips or boat excursions varies from camp to camp. And also by season, depending on the strength of the Okavango flood. Plus the water channels are continually forging new routes.

The Okavango seasonal camps are a good option if you don't have time to visit more than one camp in the Delta.

Tuskers Bush Camp Review

Tuskers Bush Camp is very neat, tidy, but rustic as well. I like how it is situated and how well the tents are spaced out. Lots of privacy and shade from the Mopane trees. They have 6 tents all en-suite with bucket showers and flush toilets. The water is very salty, so it is not drinkable. But drinking water is provided in a flask and in water bottles on request. The Bucket Shower is definitely not one of my favorites as the water is salty and it ran out within 2 minutes of turning on the shower. So you need to be ready to jump in and wash quickly! Ā The tents were fairly small (as this is a moderately priced camp), but have got shaded verandas. The tents are all solar powered so WiFi is available only in the lounge/dining area.

The staff are exceptional, very accommodating and always assisting. They always made me feel at home. They also escorted us at night and in the morning when itā€™s dark to and from our tents as the camp is not fenced and any animal can roam freely through the camp.

The food was delicious. It was well prepared and well-presented.

It wasn't prime game viewing season but we saw lots of elephants and giraffes. A few hippos here and lots of beautiful birds. If you're looking for that rustic feel and real outdoor experience, this would be the perfect camp for you!
