The Royal Livingstone Hotel is an elegant 5 star hotel in an unrivalled setting close to the Victoria Falls in Zambia. It is actually insideĀ the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park. So guests staying here have unlimited access to the Victoria Falls which is less than five minutes walk away. This is great for budding photographers who want to get that perfect shot of the Falls. And the Royal Livingstone Hotel has a stunning river-side setting right on the Zambezi river. A splendid wooden deck affords sweeping views of the falls, ideal for cocktails at sunset.
The overwhelming ambience at the Royal Livingstone is of colonial elegance with shaded verandas, cool lounges and pervading sense of space. Why not head back in time and enjoy the Royal Livingstoneās traditional High Tea with all the trimmings?
The Royal Livingstone Hotel has a superb restaurant which combines old-world formality with contemporary sophistication. Or you can opt for more relaxed dining on the veranda. Here cool river breezes offer welcome relief from the African heat. And special private dinners are offered for honeymooners. During the day you enjoy breakfast and lunch on the terrace overlooking the manicured lawns and the river. There's a beautiful large swimming pool (which seems almost in the Zambezi) and pool bar. Plus you can enjoy a range of spa treatments at their spa or even alfresco overlooking the river.
There are a range of excursions which can be booked by the hotel including sunset boat cruises, local Zambian village tours, game drives, helicopter flips and various adventure options.Ā This includes the famous trip to Livingstone Island which departs from the hotel's jetty.
The 173 luxurious rooms, with their hand-carved mahogany furniture, have an African feel with eastern overtones. They are decorated in the earthy tones of the bush offset by crisp white linen. Each has satellite television, air-conditioning, minibar, safe, telephone and tea/coffee facilities. En suite bathrooms have both freestanding ball & claw bath and shower. All the rooms stretch along the river bank. And each has a balcony or patio with views of the mature acacia trees, lawns and river. Of course the corner rooms have the best views not unsurprisingly. And there are golf carts to take and collect you if you prefer not to walk.
Though the Royal Livingstone Hotel accepts children, it doesnāt really have family-friendly accommodation. As children over 2 have to take a separate room. Howevever there are some inter-leading rooms available. So the Royal Livingstone is definitely one of the smartest places to stay in Zambia.
