Serengeti Safari Camp

CEDARBERG RATING

Comfortable

Overview

  • Serengeti Safari Camp is a mobile camp offering 'relaxed comfort'
  • Mobility & flexibility to move within the Serengeti National Park is key to staying close to the migration action
  • The focus of Nomad Serengeti is on being in the best Tanzania locations with the best guiding

The Serengeti Safari Camp is a light, simple but exceedingly comfortable mobile camp which can move to follow the wildebeest migration within the Serengeti National Park of Tanzania. It has a 'home base' at Lamai but, with ever changing weather and game conditions, the ability to move within the park 4 to 5 times a year, is key to staying close to the migration action as it heads northwards. Not only do you get the best chance of observing the migrating herds, you also gain access to some of the less visited areas of the Serengeti.

Accommodation and Main Areas

Serengeti Safari Camp can accommodate only 12 people. Despite being a mobile camp, this camp is surprisingly stylish in the somewhat colonial style of the early African explorers. The traditional tented camp has spacious East African safari tents, completely enclosed and 8ft high with a 14ft by 10ft floor area.

There are two mess tents at Serengeti Safari Camp, one for dining and one for relaxing - both completely open to the bush at the front. Dinners may be served in the mess tent or, more usually, around the campfire under the Serengeti sky.

Activities at Serengeti Safari Camp

Morning and afternoon shared game drives are the norm in closed 4x4 vehicles (with open-roof hatches) with a Nomad Guide. The game drives are an opportunity to see the great wildebeest and zebra migration, large herds of plains game and the highest concentration of predators in Africa. Excellent birding should not be forgotten as most Nomad guides are keen birders too.

If you prefer (and there is, of course, an associated cost) you can take a private vehicle and guide so there are no limits to your game viewing – you can leave camp at dawn with a picnic lunch, and return at last light.  Or you can take morning and evening drives returning to camp for lunch in between.  The whole structure of the day is deliberately designed to cater for each person’s individual interests.  And as you won't be sharing the vehicle with other camp guests, you’ll be able to indulge your own interests…without having to endure other peoples'.

Safari Tents

The six safari tents each have a dressing area separating the sleeping and bathroom areas. Your tent is luxuriously equipped with full sized beds, fine linen, dressing table, safari wardrobe, luggage rack and safari chairs. Each tent has rechargeable lights and traditional hurricane lamps.

At the front there is a large veranda with safari chairs while at the back there is a good sized en-suite bathroom with cold running water, bucket shower and an eco-flush toilet. Hot water is always available whenever you'd like it and there is a daily laundry service.
