Savute Safari Lodge peers out from ancient camelthorn trees on the shores of the Savute channel, the 'stolen river', which is now flowing again after a couple of good rains. Now the Savute area is known for its large herds of elephant and lion prides. The lounge, library and cocktail bar are in the exquisite thatch and timber main building where the upstairs viewing deck is ideal for savouring Savute's enchanting Botswana sunsets. Downstairs a large fireplace is equally inviting on winter nights. In the evening candlelit fine dining is offered in the elegant dining room.
Savute Safari Lodge has 12 contemporary en suite suites, each with spacious double volume interiors, large glass sliding doors and private viewing decks to provide the best views of the Savute plains. The chalets are specially designed to ensure comfortable sleeping conditions in the hot and dry Botswana conditions.
The Gubatsa hills near the Savuti channel shelter leopard and klipspringer and ancient rock paintings of early man's wildlife sightings. Open 4x4 safari game drives unveil the secrets of the African bush. Dry season (May to October) game-viewing concentrates the resident bull elephants, antelope and lion prides around the Savute pans and permanent waterholes. Black-backed jackal, bat-eared foxes, tsessebe, kudu, impala and ostrich abound. With the first summer rains of November thousands of migrating zebra and wildebeest assemble in the Savute marshes - up to 25,000 animals travel though Savute in search of the nutritious grasslands to the south around the Makgadikgadi pans. This offers a feast for lion, hyena and cheetah. The 300 resident bird species are swelled by migrants. Carmine bee-eaters perch on the backs of kori bustards and red-crested korhaans plummet from the sky in daring aerobatic mating displays. Thus at any time of year the Savuti Channel is a rewarding and enriching experience for your Botswana Safari.
Please note that all our Savute camps are in the Chobe National park, and thus no night drives and bush walks are allowed by the parks authorities but the quality of the game-viewing more than makes up for it.
