Puku Ridge Camp

Puku Ridge Camp is located in the central southern section of the South Luangwa National Park in Zambia and is one of our favourite camps in this area. Named after the elusive Puku antelope which never strays far from water, this beautiful camp is small and intimate. It lies on a low rocky ridge overlooking the open floodplains. For millennia, this vantage point amongst the trees has allowed the predators to quietly observe the prolific hunting grounds below. Indeed, at times the plains can be so filled with game that you may be almost reluctant to leave the lodge to head out on a game drive as we were! Puku Ridge Camp allows you to enjoy in this abundance of wildlife and offers a real wilderness experience under canvas.
The camp has been designed to blend into its environment and to leave the lowest possible carbon footprint. Yet it is not lacking in luxury or comfort. Puku Ridge Camp has 8 uber-spacious tented suites with wraparound views of the Puku plains below. Each tent has super king beds beds, mosquito nets, private veranda, hairdryer, tea/coffee facilities, ceiling fans and a rather lavish bathroom with both indoor and outdoor showers. Upstairs there's a tower with a day bed/sleep-out option. Well-lit paths connect the tents to the main bar/lounge areas with a glorious viewing deck overlooking the floodplains of South Luangwa.
The diverse wildlife in the valley offers great photo opportunities with lion, leopard, elephant and zebra frequently seen, whether you choose to explore on foot with a keen-eyed guide, or range further afield in a 4x4 safari vehicle. Watch the sun rise from your bed, elephants bathing from the comfort of your bath and perhaps even wild dogs pursuing their prey across the plains from your deck. Game-viewing is by day and by night using spotlights to track nocturnal animals such as leopard and spotted hyena. In the evenings, you dine with the night sounds of the bush as a soundtrack.
