This privately owned upmarket hotel combines plenty of facilities without a vast number of rooms. The close proximity and variety of the surrounding reefs makes Ras Nungwi Beach Hotel an excellent diving destination, and the hotel has a fully equipped PADI dive centre on-site.
Ras Nungwi Beach Hotel is built from hand-cut fossilised coral limestone and other natural materials, allowing it to blend into the landscape. The main areas at Ras Nungwi comprise an open sided bar/lounge area and dining room on two levels all under a lofty thatched roof allowing for cooling sea breezes.
In the well-kept, shady gardens are 32 rooms furnished with handcrafted Zanzibari four-poster beds and mosquito nets. All rooms at Ras Nungwi beach hotel are air-conditioned, with ceiling fan, safe, en suite bathroom and balcony. Lodge rooms are furthest away from the beach with garden views. Superior and Superior deluxe chalets have a sea view, the latter being closer to the sea. The generous Ocean Suite (140sq metres) at Ras Nungwi beach hotel lies in its own lush gardens with private plunge pool and spacious living areas. There's a generous roof-terrace and open-air sitting room, perfect for quiet relaxation right through the day.
The beach at Ras Nungwi, though narrow, is unspoilt. Low tide reveals white coral sand bars to explore and rock pools are teeming with marine life. Indeed watersports rather than beach time is what draws many people to Ras Nungwi beach hotel which has its own watersports centre (with snorkelling, water-skiing, windsurfing, dhow sailing cruises, deep sea fishing and kayaking all on offer.) There's a good PADI dive centre on-site and a range of great dive sites to suit both the beginner and the more experienced diver.
As with other hotels in northern Zanzibar, Ras Nungwi beach hotel lies on a cliff above the beach and at high tide there is not much beach to speak of. But there is a large freshwater swimming pool, on the deck between the hotel and the beach which offers a great place to enjoy the stunning ocean views.
Ras Nungwi beach hotel also has a games area, suitably popular with children and teenagers with a pool table, table tennis, board games and darts.
