Nsefu Camp lies on a sweeping bend of the Luangwa River in the northern Nsefu concession of the South Luangwa National Park in Zambia and is run by Robin Pope Safaris.
Nsefu is a stylish and utterly charming camp and the Nsefu concession is well-known as a phenomenal area for game. The view of the Luangwa River from Nsefu camp is superb and includes a terraced area where game grazes during the day.
Nsefu is steeped in history, being one of the first camps in the South Luangwa park. The six spacious thatch rondavels have been skilfully remodelled with semi-open spacious en suite bathroom/dressing rooms. However Nsefu Camp has kept to the historic ambience in the feel and fittings of the rooms offering understated elegance in a remote unspoilt setting. Large windows open onto a wooden veranda. From your bed or the veranda chairs, you gaze out over what may be the best view in the South Luangwa in Zambia, the broad meandering river where elephants can often be seen crossing.
The cosy bar and sitting area overlooks a lagoon that is very productive for game-viewing as the wildlife comes down to the lagoon to drink, especially leopard and lion at night. Lunch can be enjoyed in the dining room whilst watching large herds of elephants making their daily river crossing just upstream from camp.
Nsefu Camp's affable team offer great hospitality and game viewing takes place on foot or on day and night game drives. As with other RPS camps, they have enough guides for you to choose what you wish to do, regardless of other guests’ interests. You don’t all have to do the same thing!
This combined with their unmatched guide to guest ration of 1:4 allowing even more flexibility and choice between game drives and walking safaris makes your safari experience even more memorable.
Nsefu camp is one of only two in the Nsefu sector (the other is Tena Tena). However unique to Nsefu Camp is the opportunity to enjoy a water-based safari experience in the Emerald (wet season) with game-viewing by boat and on foot. This is paradise for keen birders who particularly enjoy the yellow-billed stork colony. Later on the drier months bring game concentrations that are second to none.
Nsefu Camp lies in a remote northern area of the South Luangwa with a two hour plus transfer time from Mfuwe Airport. Therefore you may like to preface your stay at Nsefu with a night or two at Nkwali Camp closer to Mfuwe. Robin Pope Safaris also offers a great ‘Week in the Peak’ deal which is perfect if you don’t mind which camp you want to stay at as they guarantee at least two different camps for two nights each.
