Neptune Ngorongoro Luxury Lodge is probably the closest hotel to theĀ Ngorongoro CraterĀ apart from those which are on the Crater rim itself. Conveniently locatedĀ about 3 minutes from the gate to the famous Ngorongoro Crater game reserve and about 20 minutes drive from the Crater rim, this lodge is very well set up to give you an amazing game viewing experience. Neptune is set in 50 acres of virgin Tanzanian bush in the Ngorongoro volcanic landscape.
The lodge has 20 luxurious suites built as individual log cottages. Each cottage has a spacious en suite bathroom with twin hand basins, large walk-in shower, bidet hand shower, bathrobes and good toiletries. All rooms have a king size bed and a living room with armchairs, sofa bed and coffee table, large outside terrace and butler service. As there is a separate sitting room, each chalet can easily accommodate children.
Enjoy tea or coffee on the largeĀ outside viewing terrace or in the comfortable and spacious living room heated by the open fire place.
After a thrilling time on safari,Ā you can cool off in the swimming pool or indulge in the one of the spa treatmentsĀ at the at the Mvua African Rain Spa.
Slighly surprisingly I liked this lodge, despite its incongruous name! It is the closest lodge to the park gates, literally a few hundred metres away, so it is ideal for an early entry into the park. It also has a really stunning setting overlooking the dark and brooding indigenous forest.
The main lodge sort of looks like an overgrown Scottish manor on the inside and was a little dark in terms of lighting. But the ambience was attractive and it suits the cooler highland atmosphere of the Ngorongoro region.
The rooms are spacious, each with separate sitting room. The back row looks over the front row of cottages to the forest. But the roofs, with their unique Tanzania thatching, are so attractive that you really donāt mind, which I found unusual.
