The Marine Hotel has been an icon in Hermanus for as long as anyone can remember, with a stunning clifftop setting overlooking the beautiful Walker Bay. A path leads down to the crashing waves and the hotel’s private tidal pool, whilst it’s an easy two minute walk to Hermanus market square.

Though a luxurious five star hotel, The Marine Hotel has relaxed contemporary décor, with much use of light and bright colours in the 40 bedrooms and suites. All bedrooms have private bathrooms, television, telephone, safe and underfloor heating. Views are either to the sea, the courtyard or the mountains. Guests staying in a sea view room may even see some of the Southern Right Whales from the comfort of their room in season (July to October).

Dining at The Marine

A sophisticated cocktail bar and a lounge offers wonderful sea views. The Marine Hotel has two restaurants; Origins at The Marine is a relaxed social dining experience in the comfortable surrounds of a modern, kitchen focused restaurant with a soulful menu highlighting 'everyday' favourites . The Pavilion is relaxed, but with an understated elegance. The décor is fresh and sophisticated, and the view of the sea is exceptional. It focuses on haute cuisine with hints of the Mediterranean and the East.

Other facilities include a heated courtyard pool, the Carchele Spa (offering a range of treatments including vichy showers, hydrotherapy treatment and steam room); the Internet lounge and the Sun lounge with nothing between you and the South Pole, other than 3,000 miles of ocean.

Hermanus offers some of the best land-based whale watching in the world and you may not even have to get out of bed to view these amazing creatures (from July to October). In the hotel's private tidal pool you can swim as close as 100m away from the whales. Alternatively enjoy the easy coastal path which snakes through pristine fynbos for several kilometres offering great sea views. The Marine Hotel is a member of Relais & Chateaux.
