Overview

  • The best location in the northern Serengeti, close to the Mara River crossings
  • Open-fronted rooms for thrilling 'wow factor'
  • Excellent resident guides
  • Walking opportunities (seasonal)
  • Plenty of year-round resident game
  • Great partner with sister mobile camps; Serengeti Safari Camp and Nduara Loliondo

Lamai Serengeti sits tucked among the rocks of Kogakuria Kopje with panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, only a few miles from where the wildebeest cross the Mara River. For roughly a quarter of the year, between late July and October, this is where you'll find the migration. Right here, on the doorstep. For the rest of the year, it is wild Serengeti with all the resident game of the Masai Mara - but without the people.

The Camp

Each of the rooms is designed to fit into the complex geometry of the kopje and to make the most of this sensational location, its views and its natural space and light. The rooms are a blend of canvas, plaster and natural poles. Lamai Serengeti is made up of 12 rooms in total; the main lodge and Lamai Private Camp which is taken exclusively by one party or family of up to eight people.

All the rooms have their own private and roomy verandas spread within the rocks and all have been sited with spectacular views. Each lodge has its own private bar and dining area, with adjoining library / map room and its own natural rock swimming pool. All rooms have 24hr power and en suite bathrooms with hot and cold running water, flush toilets and powerful showers.

Facilities: 24-hour Security, Bar, Internet Access, Library, Pool

Game-viewing at Lamai Serengeti

The Lamai area of the Serengeti remains lush and green all year, supporting a diversity of resident game. Typical plains game in the region include zebra, topi, gazelle, impala, buffalo and giraffe and predators include the big cats, lion and (hiding away in the river lines and among the boulders) beautiful leopard.

During the dry season, this is a great place to use as a base to witness the river crossing of the migrating herds.

As well as game drives, morning and evening, it is possible to take guided bush walks when the weather is suitable and the Camp often arranges sundowners in the bush or bush picnics.

Rooms

Lamai rooms

There are twelve stone and thatch rooms, raised on wooden decking and all en-suite. Three have an adjoining twin room for children, sharing the bathroom. Each en-suite room is open-fronted, with mosquito netting that can be zipped closed, and canvas roll-downs if needed. There are canopied mosquito nets over the beds.

The bathrooms are enclosed by heavy netting, and contain a generous shower with hot and cold running water (provided by a solar system), and flush toilet.

Each room has a comfy day bed and chairs for relaxing on the verandah.
