Kromrivier – Cederberg Park

Kromriver Cederberg Park is a lovely spot, deep in the heart of the Cederberg Mountains. It offers 9 luxurious two-bedroom chalets, with stunning mountain views. BUT it also has a restaurant offering breakfast, lunch and dinner. So Kromriver is an option for our international guests who want to see this stunning and remote area of the Cederberg. But who don't want to self-cater. (However there is a small shop as well selling some food items, so that you can opt to enjoy a braai at your chalet if you prefer.)

The chalets are extremely well appointed with two bedrooms, both en suite, a large sitting room (with an extra sofa bed suitable for two small children or one older teenager.) As well as a kitchenette and a large covered patio for outside dining.

However, lovely as the accommodation is, you come here for its superb mountain location with the the crystal clear waters of the river running by, as well as the orange and yellow mountains gleaming in the bright sunlight that turn purple as the sun set. (Ultimately to be transferred to sentries silhouetted against the starlit sky.)

This breathtakingly beautiful part of the world with its aroma of buchu, rooibos tea and Cederwood has been home to the Nieuwoudts for seven generations.

Kromriver was founded in 1960’s by Rensie & Olive Nieuwoudt. Today this is the oldest tourist destination in the Cederberg Mountains. As well as their working farm, there is also a micro-brewery on site so we recommend trying some of their range of beers whilst you stay.

Activities at Kromrivier

This is primarily a destination for people wishing to be active. There are a range of hiking trails from the short and easy, to longer 2-3 hour hikes to Crystal Pools for a refreshing swim, to even longer hikes to Maltese cross and beyond. Nearby is Trutjieskraal with its ancient Bushmen rock art. As well as the well known Stadsaal rock formations and bushmen rock art.

However many people also enjoy simply basking in this mountain paradise, swimming in the farm dam or river, reading a book on your terrace or enjoying a glass of good Cederberg wine.
