Jao Camp is an exquisite tented camp on an idyllic remote island retreat, bordering the western part of the Moremi Game Reserve. This romantic Botswana Camp, with two plunge pools, wine cellar and outdoor boma, is raised on wooden decks with wonderful views of the surrounding floodplains and savanna in the Okavango Delta.
Jao Camp offers an excellent all-round wilderness experience: with habitats varying from waterways to lagoons to dry Kalahari grasslands, the camp offers land and water experiences, depending on flood levels each year, including mokoro trails, fishing and game-viewing by boat and 4x4 vehicle.
Huge herds of red lechwe and sitatunga attract their primary predator, prides of lion. As the water levels recede, so the plains game arrives including elephant, buffalo, tsessebe, zebra and wildebeest. The birdlife is spectacular with Okavango specials like Pel's fishing owl, wattled crane, slaty egrets, pink-throated longclaws, African skimmers and jacanas.
Accommodation
Jao Camp (rebuilt in 2019) comprises a main area elevated into the tree canopy, two exclusive villas and five twins all with private plunge pools, lounge and dining areas, and en-suite bathrooms, including indoor and outdoor showers. The two Jao Villas, accommodating four people each in two identical guest rooms, share a main area, and also have an exclusive vehicle, guide, chef and butler.
The fresh and contemporary design, in the same lovely location, continues the sense of adventure that Jao has always prized, adding an element of surprise and delight in ever-evolving sculptural and architectural language.
In addition to the main lounge and dining area, there are two plunge pools and a boma for dining under the stars, complemented by selections from the excellent wine cellar. Jao also has a spa where a wide range of massage therapies are offered and a gym for the more active. The camp itself perfectly mirrors the beauty of the Delta and allows an effortless entry into the wonders of this pristine wetland paradise.

Standard Twin/Double Suites
Light and spacious, each suite looks out onto swaying reeds, waterlilies and endless views of the floodplains. Inside, the furnishings in each spacious room have been hand-crafted and curated, adding an authentic touch throughout. The soft colour palette of creams, greens, purple, and splashes of yellow, is inspired by the abundant waterlily found in the Delta, and adds to the sense of calm and peace.
Villas
Perfect for families or small groups, the two supremely luxurious and tastefully decorated villas each comprise two identical tents (four beds in total). Each has its own en suite facilities, and a spacious lounge and dining area, a kitchenette (with private chef), fire deck and private plunge pool, as well as a private vehicle, guide and private butler. Large folding doors and mosquito gauze make up the front wall so guests can enjoy more of the wonderful view. The accommodation is a sculptural marvel of natural and recycled materials.
