Entabeni Wildside Safari Camp is a charmingly rustic tented camp in Entabeni Safari Conservancy in the Waterberg, 3 hours drive north from Johannesburg. Entabeni - meaning ‘the place of the mountain’ - lies within the World Heritage Waterberg biosphere. This beautiful 22,000ha malaria-free game reserve has five different eco-systems and the varied terrain supports a wide range of wildlife including the Big Five.
The Conservancy offers unspoilt African bushveld ranging from rocky outcrops, where the leopards watch from hidden crevices, to wide open savanna where the herds of zebra, wildebeest and impala congregate. The Upper escarpment is a combination of open grasslands with wooded valleys, a favourite hangout for elephants. The lower part of the reserve is bushveld and is the haunt of the lions and general plains game. The two parts of the reserve are connected via a very dramatic and exhilarating ravine road which climbs through the 600m cliffs.
Wildside Safari Camp nestles against majestic mountains and has a relaxed atmosphere and authentic safari feel. Stay close to nature in 18 en suite tents raised on wooden decks. These are simply decorated with an en suite shower room. The open lounge/bar area at Wildside Camp with the roaring fire in the boma creates the perfect end to a relaxed day in the bush.
Entabeni Wildside Safari Camp welcomes families with children over 6 years old being able to go on game drives. The camp offers 4 family tents, sleeping two adults and two children. One child can share with their parents with an extra bed placed in the tent but this will be quite a squeeze. Alternatively children can take their own tents if they are older.
Activities include twice-daily game drives in open game 4x4 vehicles, guided nature walks, horse riding, moonlit boma dinners, picnic lunches and bush sundowners. Additional activities include helicopter flips and hot air ballooning in the early morning light.
