Overview

  • Overlooks the tranquil wetlands of Keurbooms yet it's only minutes from the vibe of Plettenberg Bay
  • Stylish use of African artefacts throughout the lodge
  • Vibey and very popular restaurant serving delicious food

Emily Moon River Lodge is a tranquil yet surprising haven, perched on a high river bank with glorious sweeping views over the Bitou River and vlei to the Tsitsikamma mountains beyond. Here you can enjoy delicious food and wine in their relaxed and popular restaurant, dining either in the lodge or on the deck, whilst Katy's Bar provides an obvious place for a drink following a hard day's sightseeing!

Accommodation

The six deluxe luxury suites, eight luxury suites and two family suites at Emily Moon River Lodge are stylishly decorated with interesting African furniture, artifacts and clean simple lines. The owner is a collector and dealer in African art and furniture so pieces have been sourced from as far away as Somalia. Each has a sitting area with fireplace, TV, telephone, minibar, ceiling fan and a private wooden deck overlooking the river below.

The main lodge is entered by ancient carved wooden doors and the deck has been extended so as to enjoy the river views to greater effect. Indeed the lodge's location is ideal for birders and those who enjoy utter peace. Birds fly past at almost eye level whilst below ducks and geese make their home in the reeds of the river bank.

Facilities

Facilities include a swimming pool, canoes for paddling on the river, plenty of walks as well as aromatherapy massages in your room. It's only 5 minutes drive from the tranquillity of Emily Moon to the restaurants, shops and beaches of Plettenberg Bay.

Emily Moon welcomes children but younger children under 8 are not allowed in the restaurant. It has two options for families. One of the cottages is a family cottage with a second en-suite bedroom below the main bedroom so that two children of any age can be accommodated in comfort.

It is well placed for enjoying some of the delights of the eastern part of the Garden Route and is a personal favourite. The Monkeyland Primate Sanctuary, Birds of Eden and the Elephant Sanctuary are all just a short drive away, as is Bramon wine estate - the only wine estate on the Garden Route with its delicious country lunches.
