Cottars 1920s Safari Camp

The Camp lies in its own 6,000 acre private conservancy, between the south-eastern part of the Masai Mara, the Serengeti and Loliondo game reserves. What Cottars 1920s Safari Camp is about is abundant wildlife and absence ... absence of cars, lodges, hot air balloons and very few planes overhead. This is what makes Cottars special. There's a family heritage of 90 years experience in professional guiding and safari operating, so the Cottars 1920s Safari Camp experience involves returning to the original spirit and essence of a safari, an era of spirited adventure combined with romance and elegance.

Accommodation

The camp has eleven tents in total (two unique honeymoon tents, five double tents and four family tents), all with en suite bathrooms. The family tents are open-plan and have living rooms with fireplaces. The entire camp is situated to ensure that tents are private and quiet whether for honeymooners or families with young children.

The camp has two main mess tent areas for fine dining, drinking, reading and relaxing, and an amazing pool and spa where guests can relax after a game drive. Guests can also enjoy a traditional canvas safari bath, a genuinely unique way of bathing specifically set up on the tent’s verandah, with views out over the plains. The location of the camp provides easy access for day and night wildlife drives in the Maasai Mara National Reserve and the Olderkesi Conservancy, wildlife walks, and cultural interactions with the Maasai community.

Safari Activities

Game drives are conducted with experienced guides and local trackers. As you are on a private concession, you can also enjoy meals and sundowners in the bush, as well as the exhilarating experience of tracking game on foot. (The surrounding hills are great for hill walks to see the Verreaux Eagle cliff nesting sites.) Three of the guides including Calvin Cottar have the prestigious silver KSPGA guiding qualification. The south-east part of the Masai Mara has most of the Mara's rhino so Cottars guests often see them as well as plenty of lion and elephant. Cottars 1920s Safari Camp also offers cultural interactions with the Masai community.

Please note that Cottars 1920s Safari Camp is far from the Mara river so if you are keen to see the actual river crossing then you should split your time between Cottars and another Mara camp closer to the rivers where you will be able to see the massive migratory herds of wildebeest and zebra, and their ever attentive predators.

Cottar's Bush Villa

Cottars 1920s Safari Camp now offers the luxuriously appointed Cottar's Bush Villa. This Bush Villa is perfect for those wanting privacy with its own dedicated staff and award winning guides. It is possibly the only private luxury homestead in the whole of the Masai Mara. This contemporary home is taken on an exclusive use basis and comprises a large living room, dining room, panoramic viewing deck and five en suite bedrooms. The villa comes with its own game vehicle, guide and dedicated staff. Cottars 1920s have now added a 25m swimming pool which is exclusively available to the Bush Villa.
