Overview

Nestled along the Zambezi River, just outside of Livingstone, Chundukwa River Lodge is a thoughtfully designed space that allows you to align with nature and immerse yourself in a more meaningful travel experience. The lodge is located on a horse ranch offering a farm-stay experience within a natural garden of beauty and diversity. Wake up with the sun in your eco-luxe chalet and peer out over the magnificent Zambezi River. Whether you opt to stay in one of the Riverside Chalets or the family-friendly cottage, you’ll never miss a hippo call - they’re just in front of you. Surrounded by nature, sit back and watch the ever-changing landscape of the River.

Chundukwa River Lodge boasts unique accommodations and healthy, home-grown, food. Take the opportunity to relax, horse-ride or immerse yourself in the bucket-list experiences that Livingstone and Victoria Falls has to offer. The menus are always guided by what is available in the garden and the produce supplied by the surrounding neighbours, whom they support locally. The lodge has a farm-to-fork philosophy which means they serve seasonal food that reflects their “pick, clean and serve” approach.

Although Chundukwa River Lodge is the ideal place for simply doing nothing at all, the destination offers exciting possibilities for all adventurers, big and small. There is a selection of in-house experiences - and for those wanting to explore further afield, their team will assist with advice, reservations and logistics. Some activities are seasonal, depending on the ebbs and flows of the Zambezi River.

Rooms

Riverside Chalets

Chundukwa River Lodge offers five Riverside Chalets that are built on stilts over the Zambezi River, each with their own sense of luxury, romantic charm and privacy. All chalets have en-suite bathrooms and two of them have baths making them perfect for couples, especially honeymooners. They are thatched, open-fronted and offer panoramic views over the water. The Riverside Chalets provide a refreshing departure from generic hotel experiences and reflect the labour of artisans.

Chundu Cottage

Chundu Cottage sleeps up to 6 people and includes one king/twin bedroom with en-suite shower and double basins, a second king/twin bedroom and an upstairs loft space that sleeps two. The loft space and second bedroom share a separate bathroom with double basins, a private toilet, and a shower with a skylight roof. An open-plan lounge and kitchen area opens onto a covered veranda and adjoining deck, extending to a plunge pool. The deck is fenced so little ones can’t wander into the swimming pool or down to the river. There are fireside chairs and a picnic table on the bank of the river for dining under the stars. Children of all ages are welcome.

Chundukwa River Lodge – Kate’s review

This is a good distance from town - approx 30-40 mins to the Victoria Falls
It is owner-run by Gail and Doug - very warm people
All the chalets have river frontage and pleasantly furnished. Some of them can be opened up fully at the front, but also closed up at night.
This was my favourite of the more modestly priced river lodges. The rooms are quirky and stylish but the main areas and pool are fairly small

Nice Touch - they give you your own driver to take you to the Falls and whatever else you want to do eg go to markets, bead workshop, Livingstone island etc etc

They also have horses on site, so can do horse-riding (at extra cost)
Also do horse-riding (three or four day nights) in the interior staying at bush camps. However you need to be an experienced rider for this.
