Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve & Wellness Retreat – to give its full name - is one of our favourite places in the Cederberg mountains. The canyons, rivers and waterfalls of the Cederberg can be savoured from the warm and stylish ambience of this luxurious lodge, run by an ever-attentive team.
This retreat is a haven of staggering beauty and tranquillity, where wildlife roams free. Offering a distinctive wilderness experience among wide open plains, ancient rock formations and crystal clear waterfalls, it is a place to embrace this extraordinary ancient landscape, and reconnect with nature and the essence of life.
A South African natural heritage site, Bushmans Kloof offers the world's largest open air art gallery with more than 130 pristine rock art sites, some dating back 10,000 years. Guided rock art walks and sunset nature drives bring you close to the indigenous game, including eland, red hartebeest, gemsbok, klipspringer, Cape mountain zebra & the elusive Cape mountain leopard.
Other activities at Bushmans Kloof include birding with 150 species recorded, mountain biking, walking trails, botanical walks, archery, fly-fishing and canoeing. Alternatively you can do absolutely nothing and just enjoy the tranquillity of nature! Relax by one of the swimming pools or take a dip in the crystal clear rock pools in true Cedarberg style.
Bushmanskloof also boasts its own Wellness centre with a range of spa treatments on offer. Some of these can also be taken alfresco in the spa sala close to the river.
Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve comprises of the main lodge described here, Cederberg House which is ideal for families or a group of friends and Bushmans Kloof Koro Lodge (an exclusive use private villa ideal for families).
Bushmans Kloof Lodge has 16 rooms and suites across several categories which vary in size and grandeur. Each used natural materials and enjoys stunning views across the indigenous gardens to the natural landscape beyond. All have full bathrooms, air-conditioning, telephone and a private terrace. Recently they have added a second private and ultra-luxurious family suite with two en suite bedrooms
Mouth-watering cuisine is served at Bushmans Kloof in different locations in the reserve. These include cosy fireside dining in the homestead or at Makana with its open views over the starlit river, as well as picnics in the fynbos, and braais (barbeques) at Embers under magical starry skies.
