Beho Beho is a real gem. It has a stunning location high on a hill in the relatively cool highlands of Selous Game Reserve.Ā  (Beho Beho means ā€˜breezeā€™ in Swahili). The fact that Beho Beho has been owned and run by the same family for three decades shows in the exceptional, warm hospitality. As well as in the dedication and friendliness of all the staff.

Accommodation

There are just eight spacious stone ā€˜bandasā€™ at Beho Beho. All are furnished with king-sized beds, huge comfy chairs, Zanzibari day beds, ceiling fan and old writing desks. The front of the banda is open and extends onto a spacious veranda, from where there are superb views over the surrounding bush. Each banda has a separate dressing room leading to an en suite bathroom with twin basins and an open air shower. Thereā€™s also a private suite which comes with its own private vehicle and guide.

The Lodge

The rest of the lodge has a homely feel with deep sofas, Persian rugs, African carvings and family photos. Thereā€™s a library with old maps, books and historical artefacts, as well as a billiard room. Beho Beho lodge is open sided with views across the valley and down to a floodlit waterhole. Thereā€™s a swimming pool at the main lodge for cooling off after a long dayā€™s travel or safari ā€“ also with stunning valley views. Food is a real highlight at Beho Beho, and communal dining adds to the ā€˜home from homeā€™ atmosphere of the camp.

Game-viewing at Beho Beho

Guiding is exceptional at Beho Beho with top quality professional guides. You have the chance to see a whole range of habitats, from riverine forest and miombo woodland to open plains and the fascinating Tagalala and Mwanze lakes. Beho Beho offers traditional 4x4 game drives, walking safaris and boat trips in the Selous Game Reserve.

Guided walking safaris, usually starting early in the morning before the heat of the day, are the campā€™s hallmark. The walks last from an hour up to three hours culminating in breakfast at a shady spot. Alternatively, you can rendezvous with a vehicle to go back to camp for a relaxing brunch. Afternoon walks can also be very rewarding. You might follow the course of the Beho Beho River before meeting up with a camp vehicle, stocked with sundowner drinks. Beho Beho has several boats stationed at Lake Tagalala, 30 minutes drive from camp. Close encounters with the resident hippos and crocodiles are a real possibility on these boat safaris, as well as the opportunity to spot numerous bird species.
