The Bay Hotel is a stylish and sophisticated five star hotel with an incomparable setting overlooking the beautiful palm-fringed beach of Camps Bay (150 metres away across the beachfront), one of Cape Town's most popular hang-outs. Indeed The Bay is one of only a handful of beachside hotels in Cape Town, and as such is very popular in summer (so book well in advance!). Most of the 72 rooms and 6 suites offer views of either the ocean, Lion's Head or the Twelve Apostles Mountains. All are simply decorated in a soft contemporary style with entrance lobby, sitting area, television, telephone and balcony as well as marble bathrooms in a neutral colour scheme.
The main areas of the Bay Hotel are looking stunning with a new funky cocktail bar, Sandy B, and an upstairs cigar lounge, Traders, with its walk-in wine cellar with a fine selection of South African wines. There's a brand new Wellness centre which has been enlarged due to popular demand. Tides restaurant is stylish and refined serving fresh, simple and modern cuisine, complemented by the enchanting views over the Atlantic Ocean and an excellent wine list. Breakfast and lunch are often served on the pool deck which has wooden decking around the main pool and three secondary 'martini' pools. A welcome addition is the Bistro @ The Bay serving light lunches and teas. You can also grab a snack here prior to heading to the beach.
The Mountain rooms face the Twelve Apostles mountain range and offer excellent value. The Classic rooms have direct access onto the pool deck and have their own balcony. There are also a small quantity of Club Classic rooms which are similar to Classic rooms but not pool facing. The Premier rooms, on the second floor, are either sea facing (west) or pool facing (north) with side sea views. There are also Luxury rooms (with full on sea views), Suites at the corners of the hotel and a Penthouse Suite.
The Bay Hotel's winning location remains as popular as ever especially in high summer when Camps Bay is a bustling trendy area, with restaurants and bars spilling out onto the beachfront, and plenty of beautiful people. However you can also consider it in the winter months when the beach is ideal for sunset walks and Camps Bay is more tranquil. The Bay Hotel cleverly changes some of its soft furnishings between winter and summer so that the Hotel looks good come summer or winter in Cape Town.
