Bateleur Safari Camp is located in South Africa's world renowned Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, an exceptional safari location in the greater Kruger Park. This prime wilderness area boasts the Big Five, a large diversity of antelope species, the entire range of smaller predators, over 500 bird species, and a tremendous diversity of reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates.
Bateleur Camp has a charming setting in a forested glade overlooking a dry river bed. It aims to offer a simple safari experience but it does it in a stylish and welcoming way.
The main areas are open plan and open to the elements with sitting area, dining area, small swimming pool and an enclosed dining space which also offers an honesty bar and snacks to be enjoyed throughout the day.
Accommodating up to 16 people, the camp offers very spacious, comfortable safari tents with a unique design. Each tented room has a thatched A-frame roof with covered patio; canvas sides with large windows offering fixed mosquito screens and roll-down flaps; double wooden front doors with fixed mosquito screens and a rustic en-suite shower room with space for suitcases and hanging space. Simple but all you could want.
The safari units vary in size, each sleeping 2-4 persons in comfort with Some units have an interior bath tub and a private outdoor shower.
The surrounding landscape is typical of the undulating granitic Lowveld basin with large broad-leafed trees dominating the uplands, followed by Acacia woodlands, which give way to the large trees that form the riverine vegetation in the valley bottoms.
Though no longer the least expensive, this well-priced little camp is very charming. It has a lovely forest setting. The main areas and bedrooms are modern in feel. Mostly alfresco living but there is a guest indoor dining area where people can help themselves to snacks and there’s an honesty bar.
The tented rooms are simple but stylish. The bathroom is quite rustic in feel with wooden latte (poles) as walls. But it is a pleasant experience and feels in keeping.
This is a moderately priced camp so they don’t have barmen to serve drinks etc.
There are 6 rooms, two of which are family tents with the main parents’ bedroom at the front, then a kid’s bedroom behind and a larger bathroom. With plenty of cupboard space for everyone.
