Carved into the rocky mountainside facing spectacular Leopard Rock, Phinda Rock Lodge offers complete seclusion. It lies in the southern part of Phinda Game Reserve, a 28,555 private game reserve to the north of Hluhluwe. Phinda offers a winning combination of soft adventure, superb Big Five game-viewing and inspired lodge design.

Rock Lodge seems almost like a little private castle, uniquely built into the cliff face of a rocky outcrop, suspended over the deep valley below and with sweeping bush views. Rock Lodge is my personal favourite of all the Phinda lodges. It has an open, relaxed feel to it, exuding cosmopolitan style whilst simultaneously staying in tune with the bush.

Accommodation

The six romantic suites cling dramatically to the steep cliffs. Each stone and adobe suite is extremely spacious with a fluid organic feel - a small indoor sitting area leads to a bedroom with glorious open views of the bushveld, which in turn leads to a spacious bathroom with sunken bath, indoor shower and one of the nicest outdoor showers to be had in Africa! Solid wooden shutters and doors opening up onto a private viewing deck and plunge pool balanced on the very edge of a breathtaking precipice.

Meals at Phinda Rock Lodge are served in warm evocative dining room, on the game-viewing deck or in a spectacular bush setting under a starlit sky. Phinda is known for its Pan-African cuisine and bush dinners. Honeymoon couples can also enjoy a private dinner in their suite.

Game viewing at Phinda Rock Lodge

Rich both in game and in stunning scenery, Phinda Game Reserve boasts the diversity of seven contrasting ecosystems, including sand forest, mountain bushveld and wetlands. This diversity of habitat naturally attracts a variety of game including lion, elephant, cheetah, leopard, rhino, hippo as well as the rare suni antelope. Phinda is particularly known for good cheetah sightings, and its prolific bird life (over 415 species recorded). Guests at Phinda Rock Lodge can enjoy game drives, nature walks and community visits. Phinda also offers specialist safaris on rhino tracking, leopard research, and bush skills or scenic safari flights.

As one of the more luxurious of Phinda's lodges, Phinda Rock Lodge has the most experienced rangers and trackers. The lodge has a vibey feel to it with an attentive and friendly staff.
