The 7,500ha Amakhala Game Reserve, between Port Elizabeth and Grahamstown offers malaria-free game viewing. 'Amakhala' is named after the Xhosa word meaning Aloes, the prolific indigenous plant found in this uniquely diverse province. Steeped in history and beauty, this game reserve creates an ideal environment for an unforgettable safari and an intimate experience of the varied landscape, including breathtaking views of the Bushman's River.

Amakhala Leeuwenbosch Country House is built around the original 1908 colonial homestead with beautiful indigenous gardens. It offers convivial country hospitality with spacious comfortable rooms and family suites to give you a family safari experience like no other. There are four en-suite bedrooms and a family suite. Spend cheerful evenings in the old 1832 cellar pub or enjoy a quiet game of billiards on the full size antique table.

Accommodation at Leeuwenbosch includes the historic Country House and the newer Shearers Lodge Suites. The Country House offers five spacious en-suite bedrooms and is furnished with a collection of historical photos, documents and antiques. Shearers Lodge offers four more contemporary double suites surrounded by a covered veranda which leads out to a tranquil swimming pool.

Savour a quiet moment in the 19th-century stone chapel. Enjoy high tea on the shady veranda or sit late into the night chatting in the convivial stone-walled cellar bar. This wonderful homestead has been in the Fowlds family for five generations, and they take great pleasure in sharing its remarkable Southern African heritage with you
