Onguma Tented Camp borders Fisher Pan on the eastern side of the Etosha National Park Game Reserve. This 34,000ha private reserve in Namibia includes savannah, bush veld and dry pan and offers the opportunity to experience Africa in all her beauty and diversity. Age-old and well-worn migration routes, once used by elephant and buffalo, wander through Onguma's three dry riverbeds. Onguma Tented Camp offers a unique bush experience and overlooks an active waterhole. Visitors to the waterhole include rhino, lion, various antelope, birds and other wildlife. Plains game roams freely through Onguma Reserve and predators - although not easy to spot - are nevertheless around. Lions are sometimes seen and often heard. There is a healthy black rhino and leopard population and hyenas are also often seen.
The seven, rather glamorous, tented rooms all have crisp, white linen, down duvets and bathrooms with romantic stone baths, indoor and outdoor showers. The interior is casual and timeless with natural materials - wood, stone and textiles - making it a visual and tactile feast. All have lovely views over the waterhole.
The main guest area also overlooks the waterhole and includes a reception area, lounge, dining room, a rim flow swimming pool as well as an open fire pit for evening sundowners under the stars.
This area is one of the key bird watching sites in Southern Africa with more than 300 bird species. Onguma reserve boasts the biggest breeding colony of white-backed vultures in Namibia. During the summer months Onguma & neighbouring Etosha plays home to thousands of migratory birds coming to wetlands created by the seasonal rains. Onguma is also part of an innovative custodianship project relating to the black rhino. Six black rhino were darted in Etosha National park and shipped to the reserve where they are protected and monitored.
Onguma Tented Camp is offered on either a DBB basis or Fully Inclusive basis (including guided morning game drives into Etosha as well as sundowner drives and night drives on Onguma’s private reserve, a rhino research drive and bush walks). Complimentary Wifi is available.
