Onguma The Fort, on the 34,000ha Onguma Game Reserve, was the original Fort on Fishers Pan adjacent to Etosha National Park. It offers probably one of the best sunset views overlooking the beautiful wilderness of the Etosha Pans scattered with hundreds of camel thorn trees.
Onguma The Fort has a classical African feel with a touch of Morocco and India thrown in with antique windows and doors. The fort-style main complex is on split levels around a courtyard with a spacious lounge and open air dining room. The tower bar has views towards Etosha and Fisher's Pan. A large wooden deck has various seating areas and overlooks the waterhole. There’s a swimming pool and complimentary Wifi is available.
Onguma The Fort has 12 Bush Suites to the north and south of the fort. Every suite is very private, about 50 metres apart, and comprises a bedroom and dressing room area equipped with bar fridge, telephone with fire places for the chilly winter evenings and air conditioners for the summer months. The spacious bathroom has both inside and outside showers. Large wooden decks have an outside seating area with sun loungers for relaxing. Many happy hours can be spent relaxing and enjoying the extraordinary views across the ever active waterhole. The Honeymoon suite has an outdoor bath as well as shower.
The Sultan’s Suite is inside the Main Tower of the main building and comprises a spacious bedroom, sitting area with flat screen TV, en suite bathroom with bath and shower, and a private viewing deck with wide-angle views over Fischer’s pan and the wilderness.
Onguma is one of the key bird watching sites in Southern Africa with more than 300 bird species recorded. During the summer months Onguma is home to thousands of migratory birds coming to wetlands created by the seasonal rains. The reserve boasts the biggest breeding colony of white-backed vultures in Namibia. Onguma is also part of an innovative custodianship project relating to the black rhino.
Onguma The Fort is offered on DBB basis but guided morning game drives into Etosha as well as sundowners drives and night drives on Onguma’s private reserve, a rhino research drive and bush walks are all on offer at an additional charge.
