Morukuru Beach Lodge is a luxury 5-suite boutique style eco-lodge in the 36,000 ha De Hoop Nature Reserve, situated approximately 1 km from the exclusive-use Morukuru Ocean House, along the same pristine coastline. Morukuru Beach Lodge, voted 'Best Resort in South Africa' in the 2020 & 2021 Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards, consist of 1 Honeymoon Suite (max 2 guests), 2 Ocean View Suites (max 2 guests) and 2 Ocean View Family Suites (maximum 2 adults + 2 children under 16 sharing), making it a great stopover location for couples or smaller families travelling along the Garden Route.
From the lodge it is just a short walk down to the beach and during whale season (July-October) this is arguable the best location for land based whalewatching in Africa. Other activities on offer include mountain-biking, fynbos walks, tidal walks, snorkeling and swimming in protected rockpools, sand-boarding and nature drives.
Morukuru Beach Lodge is off grid completely, with electricity being generated entirely by solar panels, for the odd longer cloudy periods a backup generator is available however. All meals, soft drinks and 2 guided activities (shared with the other guests) are included in the daily rate.
Driving time from Cape Town or Knysna is approximately 3,5 hours. Private charter flights from Cape Town to De Hoop Nature Reserve are also possible, this flight takes approximately 50 minutes.
