The Canyon Roadhouse lies only 20km from the main viewpoint of the Fish River Canyon. Due to its quirky décor Canyon Roadhouse has acquired a sort of cult status in Namibia: the good old days of the automobile are celebrated in the themed restaurant and bar. The geology, flora, fauna and history of the area are explained on display boards at the Canyon Information Centre.
The 24 individually decorated en-suite rooms are gathered around an inner courtyard, creating a feel of tranquil homeliness. All are spacious and have tea/coffee facilities, safe and air-conditioning. Two twin rooms have an inter-leading door so they can double up as a family room.
The à la Carte restaurant is open all day and decorated with old farming artifacts which makes dining here an intimate and cozy experience. Be sure to enjoy a slice of their legendary Amarula cheesecake! You can enjoy a drink in the 'Wheels' bar, a setting for many a tall travellers' tale.
Outside the large terrace allows for alfresco dining during the long summer nights whilst the large swimming pool and sundeck lies between indigenous succulents such as hoodias and aloes. There’s even a petrol station (somewhat in keeping with the automobile theme and very useful!)
At Canyon Roadhouse you can book any of the activities offered in the Gondwana Canon Park such as sunrise walks, morning hikes, horse riding and a delightful sundowner drive. These excursions depart from its sister lodge, Canyon Lodge. Other activities on offer are visits to the Fish River Canyon or the nearby cluster of Quiver Trees and rock formations, or hiking on the private nature reserve.
