Savute Elephant Lodge is set on the edge of the now-flowing Savute Channel, amidst towering acacia trees. This is a tented camp in grand African style - accommodation is in 12 luxurious air-conditioned tents, shaded by thatch. Each tent has a four poster bed, complimentary minibar, spacious en suite bathroom, dressing room area and private timber deck. The decks, furnished with loungers and a hammock, enjoy birds' eye views over the channel below.
One of the features of Savute Elephant Lodge is its specially constructed 'elephant proof' heated swimming pool. Â From here you can see a popular waterhole which lies just metres from the main lodge. The lodge has its own traditional boma, where guests can relax in the evening and swap safari experiences while marvelling over the stars in the vast African night sky.
As its name suggests, Savute Elephant Lodge is known for its elephant sightings. Game, including resident prides of lion and wild dog, may be viewed from open safari vehicles during morning and evening drives into the park, whilst from your private deck, elephant can be viewed as they arrive and depart from sunrise to sunset in order to drink at the waterhole.
Dry season (May to October) game-viewing concentrates the resident bull elephants, antelope and lion pride around the pans and permanent waterholes. Black-backed jackal, bat-eared foxes, tsessebe, kudu, impala and ostrich abound. The summer rains attract a feast for lion, hyena and cheetah as thousands of migrating zebra and wildebeest assemble in the marshes. Cape buffalo herds arrive and the 300 resident bird species are swelled by migrants. Carmine bee-eaters perch on the backs of kori bustards and red-crested korhaans plummet from the sky in daring aerobatic mating displays. Thus at any time of year there is a rewarding and enriching experience to have at Savute Elephant Lodge. The nearby Gubatsa hills shelter leopard and klipspringer and a treasury of ancient Bushman rock paintings record early man's wildlife sightings.
Please note that Savute Elephant Lodge is in the Chobe National park, and thus no night drives and bush walks are allowed by the parks authorities, but the quality of the daytime game-viewing more than makes up for it.
