Rufiji River Camp is located in the north-eastern section of the Selous Game Reserve on a high bank, overlooking the mighty Rufiji River and plain beyond. The Camp combines Makuti Palm Roofs with Selous stone and farmed hardwoods to create a really attractive lodge.
There are 11 Classic Tents pitched under thatched roofs, with en-suite bathroom and a veranda facing the river. Hot water for showering is provided by solar heating. 3 suites complete the accommodation at Rufiji River Camp; these are ideal for friends or families who want a bit more space and privacy. Each features 2 large tents on a shared platform and a private plunge pool.
The centrally located bar and restaurant have great views over the river. The camp makes maximum use of local materials, retaining an intimate relationship with the surrounding eco-system. There's a shaded swimming pool allowing guests the chance to freshen up between safari activities.
Activities on offer include boat trips for game viewing along the Rufiji River. Those who experience this safari can verify the fact that this river, with its lakes and canals, boasts Africa's highest concentration of hippo, as well as masses of crocodiles and over 400 bird species. Land activities include game drives conducted in open 4x4 vehicles with a sun shade roof and bush walks.
For a real “get-away-from-it-all” experience try the fly camping option. This is a private camp in the bush, sleeping in dome tents and using a bucket shower. The fly camp has its own host, chef and guide.
