Lake Manze Tented Camp

CEDARBERG RATING

Comfortable

Overview

  • Lake Manze Tented Camp offers a rustic and back-to-nature safari
  • Great setting on the lakeshore
  • Convivial communal dining with chances of seeing animals in camp
  • Game drives, walking safaris & boat safaris in the Selous all on offer

Lake Manze Tented Camp is on the shore of Lake Manze, home to hippo, sunbathing crocodiles, elephant and herons. Lake Manze is one of the richest areas for game in the entire Selous Game Reserve, whether you are visiting during the dry or wet seasons.

This comfortable camp in the Selous Game Reserve is purposefully 'no frills', offering a true wilderness experience together with comfortable but simple accommodation. They purposely keep everything as it was before they arrived so that the animals use the camp as much as guests. Experience the thrill of having an elephant eating palm seeds right outside your tent.

Dining is convivial, mixing with other guests either alfresco under the stars by the lakeshore or in the dining area. There's no electricity in the traditional Meru-style tents, but over 50 staff provide high levels of hospitality at Lake Manze Camp. At night, kerosene lanterns illuminate the communal areas, the paths to the tents and the exterior of the tents, as well as their bathrooms.

Accommodation

The 12 tents all have lovely views towards Lake Manze and an open air en-suite bathroom with flush loo and solar-heated shower. Some tents have clearer views down to the lake, whilst others are more shaded by trees. This is a mixed blessing - it brings some welcome shelter from the sun at hotter times of the year, but does partially obstruct the views.

Activities

Lying on the floodplain, Lake Manze Camp is in amongst the action as animals come down to drink using the well-worn elephant trail so that game-viewing can be rewarding without even leaving camp. However 4x4 game drives, walking and boat safaris in the game rich Selous Game Reserve are all on offer at Lake Manze. Game drives can usually be adapted to suit individual preferences and may be in the morning, afternoon or a rewarding full day out. Enjoy a delicious picnic breakfast or lunch as you spot lions or wild dogs. The boat trips may be onto Lake Manze or along a channel running toward the Rufiji River, with crocodile basking along the banks. Or why not try out a spot of fishing or experience the thrill of a sunrise walking safari?
