This is a quirky and romantic lodge, set in a private conservation area on the eastern border of Tarangire National Park. The reserve covers an area of 260 sq km amid rolling baobab studded hills with views to Lake Manyara and the Rift Valley. Tarangire Treetops is built on one of the main elephant migration routes and the park is home to some of the largest herds of elephant in Africa.
The lodge offers 20 spacious thatched tree-houses built on high platforms around enormous baobab trees - literally in the treetops.
In the main lodge at Tarangire Treetops, the 'baobab bar' is built around an ancient 700 year-old tree, and acts as the meeting place where safari tales are swapped. In the centre is a fire pit surrounded with cushioned seating and huge comfortable seats. This is very cosy especially during chilly evenings. Reclaimed dhow wood, understated bush colours and beautiful African art all blend well to create a stylish yet simple ambience. Also,Ā the lodge has a swimming pool downstairs with sun loungers overlooking the bush which is quite unique for smaller camps. There's a waterhole which is a popular spot for elephants especially during the dry season.
As the lodge is in a private concession, activities include bush walks, mountain bike trails and night drives as well as the usual 4x4 game drives into Tarangire National Park during the day. Some of these are at an extra cost and ideally need to be pre-booked to be guaranteed.
Tarangire Treetops is the sister lodge to Arusha Coffee Lodge, SerengetiĀ Migration Camp & The Manor at Ngorongoro.
