South Luangwa Safari At A Glance
On arrival at Mfuwe Airport you are transferred to the lodge. This is quite a busy road and you travel through villages, so your drive is punctuated by the opportunistic greetings of savvy youngsters, who wave madly in the hope of sweets!
You head to Kakuli for 2 nights. Kakuli Bush Camp offers a mix of game drives and walks, and is a gradual introduction to the bush.
Kakuli Bush Camp is a beautiful camp on the banks of the Luangwa river providing a superior standard of bush accommodation. The dining area, along with each of the tents, is on an elevated stretch of river bank overlooking a wide grazing area.
The brooding Luangwa River meanders through the luxuriant valley, supporting thousands of hippo and crocodile and sustaining the park. Elephant, a wide variety of antelope, buffalo, kudu, zebra, Thornycroftâs giraffe and wildebeest occur in great numbers, as well as over 400 bird species. Lion, wild dog and hyena are also common and the park is famed for its excellent leopard sightings.
Today you head to the much more rustic bush walks. You spend 3 nights here, either at one camp or between 2 nights and one and then walk to the second for an overnight stay.
Luwi Bush Camp is a seasonal bush camp nestled under huge mahogany trees on the banks of a permanent lagoon in the South Luangwa National Park of Zambia. It is one of the more remote bush camps and focuses on walking safaris. Luwi Camp consists of four thatched bamboo chalets with polished mud floors. They are set in a beautifully shady grove of trees on the banks of the Luwi sand river. The rooms are rustic and simple yet comfortable with en-suite bathrooms and hot showers. Luwi Camp offers a truly African bush experience.
This is a walking camp so your game activities are an early morning walking safari, siesta and relaxation and then a late afternoon walking safari.
Today after a final bush walk, you are transferred to Mchenja Bush Camp for a relative touch of luxury for your final two nights in the South LuangwaâŠ
Mchenja Bush Camp is one of the more charming and romantic of the camps in South Luangwa National Park in Zambia. It is the flagship bush camp of Norman Carr Safaris, one of the oldest safari operators in the South Luangwa National Park, which was begun by the legendary Norman Carr, one of the pioneers of game conservation in Zambia.
Today you are transferred back to Mfuwe Airport for onward flight connections (flights not included).
Note: It is possible to link this safari with other Zambian destinations such as Victoria Falls, Lower Zambezi or Kafue.
