The Malawi Southern Explorer to Liwonde & Lake is an enchanting wildlife and beach safari holiday. It's a great introduction to unspoiled Malawi. But it can also be the basis for a longer stay (perhaps combining it with a fly-in safari to the Nyika Plateau?)

After an overnight stay in Lilongwe. you stay first at some of the best-loved safari camps in Malawi, Mvuu Wilderness Lodge or Kuthengo in the Liwonde National Park. Next, you travel by road north to Cape Maclear in the southern part of Lake Malawi.

We have shown the tour at two different price points.

Our Base price combines 3 nights at Mvuu Lodge with 3 nights with a Superior room at Makokola Retreat (Full Board basis) if you prefer more of a hotel/resort ambience more. You can also upgrade to a Lake Suite if you prefer, for a small supplement.

Our Red Carpet option combines 3 nights at Kuthengo Lodge, also in Liwonde, with 3 nights at Pumulani Lodge (Recommended!)

Note: You can also opt to do this at a reduced price by staying 3 nights at Mvuu Camp with 3 nights at the rustic - but idyllic - Mumbo Island Camp (Full Board basis)

Tailor-make this tour

You can opt to fly from Lilongwe down to Liwonde National Park. This may mean that you don't need to stay overnight in Lilongwe at the start. The extra cost for the flight is not that great eg approx $225-$250 per person extra.
