Matetsi Victoria Falls  (formerly known as Matetsi Water Lodge) combines dramatic architectural design and luxurious interiors ,with the vibrancy of the Zimbabwean people. The result is an award-winning luxurious retreat that offers a superb safari experience close to Victoria Falls.

Matetsi lies on the banks of the Zambezi within a 55,000 ha game reserve, with 15km of river frontage  It's only a 45 minutes drive (40km) upstream from beautiful Victoria Falls. Yet that is only one of the attractions. Here you can enjoy both the adventure and the tranquility of riverside life. This is big sky country – a land of giant baobabs and ancient acacias, burnished grasslands and abundant wildlife. So  you can combine land and water-based game viewing with a complimentary excursion to see the Victoria Falls. All in one stay!

The Zambezi river is known for some of the best elephant viewing in Africa in the winter months, from May to October. You can often see huge herds at the end of the dry season. Lion are also common as well as buffalo, cheetah and an amazing variety of antelope. Whilst the river is alive with crocodile and hippo. Matetsi is especially good for birding with marvelous bird life on offer including kingfishers and bee-eaters.

Choose between game drives, guided walks and languorous sunset boat cruises on the Zambezi. Or perhaps opt for some relaxing fishing or slightly more adventurous canoeing. Matetsi aims to provide a holistic eco-experience which balances the benefit to visitors, animals, ecology and the local community.

Accommodation at Matetsi Victoria Falls

Shaded by Mangosteen and Waterberry trees, Matetsi has three intimate camps. Each with six air-conditioned river suites and its own elegantly appointed dining & sitting areas with open river views. In addition each suite has its own plunge pool, spacious bathroom and river deck. All the suites have breathtaking views over the waters, where hippo rupture the burnished surface of the Zambezi.

There is also a Family Suite with two en suite bedrooms, ideal for families or two couples travelling together. Or you can opt to take one of the three camps (6 suites) on an exclusive use basis as  a River House Private Villa.
