Hunter's Country House, just 10 km from Plettenberg Bay and 22 km from Knysna, is owned and managed by the Hunter family. This country house hotel is an oasis of tranquillity and a romantic retreat. Set in beautiful gardens that overlook the indigenous forest. The original homestead is full of character and charm, luxuriously furnished with fine antiques and sumptuous fabrics. And is set within a 90 acre forested estate, with two marked walking trails.

The Lodge

Whilst staying at Hunter’s one can make use of the on-site bicycles to take a slow meander around the estate taking in the beautiful garden settings, getting fresh air and exercise. You can pre-order a picnic to enjoy under a beautiful old tree relaxing. Or simply enjoying being in nature and reading a book. There is a large pool with loungers to relax on. A lounge and library with a fireplace with complimentary Wi-Fi access. On request there is in-room pamper treatments. And Cubs Corner – a designated play area for children up to 6 years & babysitting facilities (on request). New additions are the chill out spaces, firepit, yoga studio and gym.

Accommodation

Within the beautiful gardens of Hunter's Country House are 30 luxurious rooms and suites. Each one individually decorated and designed for comfort and privacy. The Terrace Rooms all lead onto outdoor patio seating areas that are intimate and cosy. With a choice between 2 thatched and 3 non-thatched rooms, each with en-suite bathroom with shower only, are situated in close proximity to the main building and just a short stroll from the tented boma and main pool area.  The Orchard and Garden suites have open fireplaces, delightful bathrooms, and private patios and are furnished with antiques restored on the estate. The Pool suites, each with private plunge pool, separate lounge-dining room, and indoor-outdoor showers, are a real treat.

Families at Hunter's

Hunter's Country House is known for its child-friendliness. Children have their own dedicated games & activity room, shallow pool, lawn area, sandpit and there are organised activities on offer. There are various options for family accommodation depending on your budget.

The Orchard rooms can be taken as inter-leading rooms. There's one Garden cottage which has a second smaller children's room, simply furnished with twin beds and a shower room en suite. There are three family suites which are two linked garden suites, thus the children's room is of the same size as the parents room. This is usually kept as a sitting room during the day and converted into the children's room in the early evening. It can sleep up to three children. Finally, if your budget allows, you can take the Two Bedroomed Family Pool Suite.

Dining

Enjoy bistro style dining at The Conservatory at Hunters or in one of the beautiful seating areas around the Estate, and choose from seasonal light and tasty a la carte menu, offering a fusion of Anglo Italian country fare. For a casual lunch or dinner a la carte style, our award winning Zinzi Restaurant is just a stroll from both Hunters and Tsala. A third option is the exquisite glass-walled dining room at Tsala which offers a la carte for lunch or dinner.
